Glomus jugulare tumor

Glomus jugulare tumor

Abstract

The glomus jugulare glomus tumor is a benign neoplasm derived from the main cells of the jugulotympanic paraganglia. Its morbidity and mortality is due to its location: the base of the skull. Its clinical manifestations derive from the involvement of the structures related to the jugular foramen and the middle ear, presenting in most cases with tinnitus, hypoacusis and involvement of cranial nerves IX, X and XI. This paper reports a case treated at the ABC Hospital. A review of the literature is also presented. The need for a multidisciplinary approach for its correct diagnosis and treatment is emphasized.
